Klart for final mellan Monfils och Nieminen
First-seeded Gaël Monfils has become the one who will meet Jarkko Nieminen of Finland in tomorrow's final. Today he won his semifinal against Milos Raonic 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
Today's two semifinals at the Kungl. (Royal) Tennis Hall were determined in three sets. In the match between Milos Raonic and Gaël Monfils, the Canadian had the upper hand after winning the first set and was in the lead in the second with a serve breakthrough. But Monfils managed to break Raonic’s serve when he was down 3-4 and won the set 6-4. In the beginning of the third set, the match was going back and forth. In his three previous matches, Raonic had only given his opponent one break point opportunity, but in the third set Monfils broke the Canadian’s serve again. The third set ended 6-3 to the Frenchman's advantage.
“It felt good to win today, it was a tough match. My plan to get him to move on the court worked. It felt like he was a bit tired towards the end,” said Monfils at the press conference.
The victory means that Monfils will play in the final against Jarkko Nieminen. The players met three weeks ago in the quarterfinals in Bangkok, and Monfils won 7-5, 7-6.
“I have to play a little better than I did three weeks ago. It will be a tough game from the baseline,” Monfils said.
For those who do not want to miss tomorrow's final, there are still seats available.
